Chairman Senate of Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani meets Cambodian Prime Minister.

Parliamentary relations and exchange of delegations were discussed in detail in the meeting.

Islamabad (Reporter Javed Iqbal) According to Global Times Media Europe, Chairman Senate of Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani met with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, His Excellency Samdech Moha Boror Thepadi Hun Manet, during his official visit to Cambodia, in which it was agreed to further promote bilateral relations, parliamentary diplomacy, political contacts and people-to-people cooperation between Pakistan and Cambodia. During the meeting, the Chairman Senate expressed good wishes on behalf of the Senate of Pakistan to the Prime Minister of Cambodia and expressed his deep respect for the Parliament and people of Cambodia. He thanked the Cambodian leadership for the warm hospitality and highlighted the friendly and historic diplomatic relations established between the two countries since May 28, 1952.

 Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan-Cambodia relations are based on mutual respect, shared interests and close cooperation in multilateral global forums. He appreciated Cambodia’s support for Pakistan’s election to the United Nations Security Council for 2025–26 and also valued Pakistan’s engagement with ASEAN, especially Sectoral Dialogue Partner Status and Cambodia’s role in the ASEAN Regional Forum membership. The Chairman Senate, while mentioning his long-standing ties with Cambodia, referred to his participation in the Asia-Pacific Cambodia Conference in 2019, meeting with the then Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and attending the International Leadership Conference in July 2023, in addition to his visit as an international observer to the general elections. He reiterated his commitment to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation, calling the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Senates of the two countries in 2016 an important milestone. The importance of parliamentary friendship groups, committee-level exchanges and capacity-building initiatives was also emphasized on the occasion.

The Chairman Senate welcomed Cambodia’s active participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) to be held in Islamabad in November 2025 and highlighted the vast potential for promoting trade, defense and security, addressing climate change, climate resilience, and cultural ties. He also described Pakistan’s shared Buddhist heritage linked to the Gandhara civilization as an important source of cultural ties between the two countries. At the end of the meeting, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further deepening close cooperation and ties with Cambodia for the promotion of peace, regional stability and inclusive development.
