Women's awareness seminar held at Commissioner House Peshawar.

Effective measures announced for women's rights, elimination of harassment and sharing of inherited property.

PESHAWAR:(Report by Fatima Jafar)According to Global Times Media Europe, an important awareness seminar on women's rights was held at Commissioner House Peshawar under the chairmanship of Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's first female provincial ombudsman Rabab Mehdi. The seminar was attended by a large number of district administration officers from all five districts of Peshawar Division, women from different walks of life and social representatives. Addressing the seminar, Provincial Ombudsman Rabab Mehdi provided detailed awareness regarding the problems faced by women, incidents of harassment, sharing of rights in inherited property and other legal matters. She said that women can file an application directly at the office of the Provincial Ombudsman, Benevolent Fund Building, Peshawar Cantt, to protect their rights and there is no need for a lawyer in this regard. He announced that an open court will be held for women across the province next week so that their problems can be heard and steps can be taken for immediate solutions. On this occasion, women also asked questions related to their rights and legal matters, to which satisfactory answers were given and all possible assistance was assured. Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud said in his address that it is not possible to imagine a sustainable and developed society without women. He said that today's awareness seminar is the beginning of a positive change and the full participation of women is proof that they have the ability to play an important role alongside men in the development of society. He added that in the past, women's rights were ignored, but now it is time to provide them with equal opportunities. If women get equal opportunities, they can perform better than men. He announced that open courts will be organized up to the union council level for the protection and awareness of women's rights so that maximum women can benefit. At the end of the seminar, the commitment was reiterated that all institutions will jointly continue to take effective steps to eliminate all types of discrimination against women and empower them.
