Wadephul, Rubio to hold talks in Washington ahead of NATO meeting in Ankara.

According to Global times News Agancy Europe,German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul will visit the United States for talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, The global times Europe media.The talks will take place ahead of the NATO summit scheduled for July in Ankara, Tรผrkiye. Wadephul and Rubio will focus on burden-sharing within NATO, as Washington increasingly expresses dissatisfaction with the current system.Earlier, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth criticized NATO partners for their military spending and their lack of initial support for the US war in Iran. Hegseth reiterated US President Donald Trump's threat to withdraw troops from Europe, where Washington is deploying them to assist in Europe's defense and to ensure the rapid deployment of US military power abroad.The German Foreign Ministry stated that the talks will address continued support for Ukraine, as well as the situation in the Middle East following the recent escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran.Before leaving, Wadephul emphasized the need for unity within the Western military alliance: "Our Euro-Atlantic security crucially depends on whether we continue to stand side by side in NATO as resolutely as we have done so far.Following his visit to the United States, Wadephul will reportedly travel to Asuncion, Paraguay, for the Mercosur summit, which will take place on Tuesday.
